The Bank of England Museum
Keeping on An Even Keel &
The Banknote Gallery
The Bank had commissioned an entertaining & informative animated film and associated literature, "Keeping on an even keel", with a strong nautical theme explaining the Bank's core purposes. Working with our graphic design partners Tuch Design, our brief was to introduce and consolidate these themes into a large central feature exhibition to provide visitors with an easily digestible overview that directs them to other resources.
Based on traditional boat building techniques we created a freestanding interlocking rib structure cnc cut from birch plywood to support graphic banners and display cases. The piece was beautifully realised and installed by contractors B Scenic, who fabricated and test built the whole boat in their Edinburgh workshop.
Working with the banks AV consultants, Cubit 3D also designed two interactive games consoles and an associated ‘mast and sail’ feature framing the overall installation and forming a dramatic central entrance feature in an already impressive space.
Following the success of "Keeping on an even keel" Cubit3D and Tuch were again commissioned by the bank to design a companion exhibition” The Banknote Gallery” to coincide with the introduction of the new £10 polymer note. The exhibition showcases the history of banknote design and manufacture by combining artefacts, informative graphics and interactive iPad displays.
